From "Two diamonds" to One/Three Diamonds
Two Diamonds
1. Do Opening A and release thumbs.
2. Thumbs move over intervening strings and pick up the far little-finger string.

3. Expand index-finger loops and hang them on thumbs. Navajo thumbs.

4. Index fingers move into the triangles.

Release little fingers. Index fingers move away from you to extend the pattern. Index-finger loops drop naturally.
Two Diamonds
This ending procedure (Steps 3-4) is called Osage extension.
One Diamond
By doing the following steps between Steps 2 and 3 of Two Diamonds, you can make One Diamond.
(i) Release little fingers.

(ii) Give a 360-degree twist toward you to the right thumb loop.
(iii) Give a 360-degree twist toward you to the right index-finger loop.
(iv) Little fingers move over index-finger loops and pick up far thumb
strings.
One Diamond
Notes:
(a) If you skip Steps (ii)-(iii), you make Two Diamonds.
(b) In order to release little fingers smoothly at Step (i), Step 2 of Two Diamonds can be replaced by
"2. Thumbs move into the index-finger loop from above, then move under intervening strings and pick up the far little-finger string."

(c) The procedure of Steps (i)-(iv) is equivalent to the following procedure.
(i) Release little fingers.
(ii) Little fingers move over index-finger loops and pick up far thumb strings.
(iii) Release thumbs.

(iv) Give a 360-degree twist toward you to the right little-finger loop.
(v) Give a 360-degree twist toward you to the right index-finger loop.
(vi) Thumbs move over index-finger loops and pick up near little-finger strings.
Three Diamonds
By doing the following steps between Steps 2 and 3 of Two Diamonds, you can make Three Diamonds.
(i) Release little fingers.
(ii) Give a 360-degree twist toward you to the left thumb loop.
(iii) Give a 360-degree twist toward you to the left index-finger loop.
(iv) Little fingers move over index-finger loops and pick up far thumb strings.
Three Diamonds
Notes:
(a) In the case of Three Diamonds, you may give twists away from you.
(b) If you give twists to loops on both hands, you make Four Diamonds.
Other ways to make One and Three Diamonds
One Diamond
1. Hang the loop on thumbs. Little fingers move over the far thumb string and pick up the near thumb string.
2. The right index finger picks up the left palm string
and then the left index finger picks up the right palm string
as you do Opening A.
3. Release little fingers.

4. Little fingers move over the index-finger loop and pick up far thumb strings.
5. Release thumbs.
As shown below, you can change the number of diamonds by giving twists of loops here.
If you want to make One Diamond, you do not need to do Steps 5 and 6.
6. Thumbs move over index-finger loops and pick up near little-finger strings.
7. Do the Osage extension.
8. Turn the left hand away from you 180-degrees.
One Diamond
Three Diamonds
1. Do Opening A and release little fingers.
2. Little fingers move under intervening strings and pick up the near thumb string.
3. Release thumbs.
4. Do Steps 6-8 of One Diamond.
Three Diamonds
Adding twists of loops
Giving twists of the index-finger and little-finger loops away from you between Steps 5 and 6 of One Diamond,
you can change the number of diamonds.
360-degree twists of the right-hand side loops lead to Two Diamonds.
360-degree twists of the left-hand side loops lead to Four Diamonds.
360-degree twists of all the index-finger and little-finger loops lead to Three Diamonds.
(the same as after Step 3 of Three Diamonds)
